Welcome to Rigpa Newcastle

We are a community of friends from across the greater Newcastle region  supporting each other on the spiritual path.
We offer Buddhist teachings and practices passed down over centuries through an authentic lineage.
Timeless and profound, these teachings and practices remain directly relevant to people in the modern world and daily life.

Meditate with us

We offer regular drop-in meditation sessions following the authentic lineage of the Tibetan Buddhist wisdom tradition. Our meditation sessions are perfect for busy people without any meditation experience, right through to seasoned meditators. Step by step guidance will help you build confidence in your own meditation practice and inspire you to establish a daily practice.

The first and basic practice of meditation is to allow the mind to settle into a state of ‘calm abiding’, where it will find peace and stability.  Training in mindfulness and calm abiding (shamatha) meditation pacifies our scattered minds, defuses our powerful emotions and overcomes distraction. It is a process of coming to understand your own mind.

The sessions are very practical, and guide you into the practice in a simple and experiential way.

Courses, Retreats & Other Events

Rigpa Newcastle offers courses and practices for everyone interested in exploring meditation and studying Buddhism.
We are part of an international community of students and friends studying and following the Buddhist teachings of Tibet. As such, we provide a variety of study, meditation and other practice events to inspire participants – newcomers and established students alike.
A graduated path of study and practice is available to those who want to follow the Buddha’s teachings more seriously, including advanced programs for members.
Courses and other events may be for just an hour or two, or for a series of days or weeks. They are held by qualified and experienced teachers. All of our courses include plenty of time for reflection and discussion to allow attendees to connect with like-minded others and share understandings.
Register online for courses, or just come along for our weekly meditation.
Our purpose is to reach as many people as possible and share the precious Dharma. May you too be touched by the Buddha’s teachings.

Our Newcastle Community

Rigpa Newcastle is a strong community of friends supporting each other on the spiritual path.  The group started  in the early 1990’s and is part of a large international spiritual organisation. We study and practice together in various venues in the Newcastle area and online.
We provide opportunities to share the gift of the Buddhist teachings and practices with all those who wish to discover them.
As people connect with the practices and teachings, they may choose to become a member of our local Buddhist community.
Volunteer run and not for profit, we are funded by membership and some funds arising from events and dharma items sales. The group is managed by a coordinating team.
