SUMMARY:A New Way of Seeing the World: Discovering Buddhist Wisdom
DESCRIPTION:A New Way of Seeing the World: Discovering Buddhist Wisdom\nWeekly ONLINE interactive course over 10 weeks with Dominique Side \nThis interactive course is an exploration of the key points of Buddhist thought. It examines these perspectives closely to see the similarities and differences between Buddhist views and contemporary ideas. We will be invited to revisit our own views and clarify for ourselves what our outlook on life actually is. This process leads to far greater confidence in the way we see things. \nThe course covers these topics:\nWeek 1          What is wisdom?\nWeek 2          Mindfulness: the support of wisdom\nWeek 3          How things appear and how things are\nWeek 4          The Four Noble Truths\nWeek 5          Who am I ? Body and mind\nWeek 6          The afflictions: how do they function and how can we eliminate them?\nWeek 7          Karma: what it is\, how it works\, can a Buddhist do without it?\nWeek 8          The Wheel of Life\nWeek 9          What does enlightenment mean?\nWeek 10        The journey: Stages on the Buddhist path \n  \nMay 15\, 2025 – July 17\, 2025 \nAvailable on Rigpa’s Online Courses platform from 15 May until 17 July 2025\,\nLive sessions every Thursday\, 19:00 – 20:30 Australian Eastern Standard Time (11:00 – 12:30 CET) \n  \nAbout Dominique Side \nDominique encountered Tibetan Buddhism in the mid-seventies in London—it rapidly became her life’s passion. Since then she has dedicated her life to communicating the extremely practical and at the same time deeply profound ideas of Tibetan Buddhism to people of all walks of life. \nDominique has studied with Sogyal Rinpoche and Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche in particular\, and has completed several strict practise retreats. She also obtained a PhD in Madhyamaka philosophy from Bristol University\, UK. She taught Buddhism in London schools for eight years and wrote several textbooks on the subject. Under the guidance of Dzongsar Khyentse she initiated the Milinda training programme for Dharma teachers in 2017. For five years Dominique served as vice-president of the European Buddhist Union; and she manages Windows into Buddhism\, a website with educational resources for those who teach Buddhism to children. \nEntrusted as a Senior Teacher in Rigpa\, she specialises in making Buddhist thought and philosophy accessible to all. \nRecently Dominique started writing in-depth articles from the Buddhist perspective for her blog The Softer Gaze\, that have the power to enrich the everyday and support a softer view of life\, one that is infused with the Buddha’s compassionate gaze. \nShe is author of Discovering Buddhism (2022) that presents the history and key ideas of all the main traditions of Buddhism in an accessible way for the general public and the education sector. She edited two books by the Dalai Lama\, The Four Noble Truths (Thorsons\, 1998) and Transforming the Mind (Thorsons\, 1999). \n  \nMore details: https://prajnaonline.org/course/a-new-way-of-seeing-the-world-discovering-buddhist-wisdom-2025

SUMMARY:Inspiring a Revolution in Your Heart and Mind
DESCRIPTION:Module 6 – The Spiritual Path  \n5-week course\nTuesdays Beginning 26 August to 23 September\n6.30pm to 8.30pm\n  \nInspiring a Revolution in Your Heart and Mind presents an experiential journey through The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying\, its major themes and their practical implications. Suitable for people of any religion or none\, the course encourages you to experiment with applying the Buddhist teachings in your daily life. \nThe first declaration that the Buddha made at the time of his enlightenment was: “Profound peace\, free of complexity\, natural simplicity\, uncompounded luminosity.” This module examines what is enlightenment and explores the practical training of the Tibetan Buddhist Dzogchen Path in terms of View\, Meditation\, and Action. To see directly the absolute state\, the Ground of our being\, is the View; the way of stabilizing that View and making it an unbroken experience is Meditation; and integrating the View into our entire reality\, and life\, is what is meant by Action. \nFREE for Rigpa subscribers. \nLocation\nRigpa Adelaide\, 1st Floor Theosophical Society Building\, \n310 South Terrace\, Adelaide \nEvent Fee(s)\n5 weeks – full ($15 per session) A$75.00\n5 weeks – concession ($10 per session) A$50.00\nOne session only (full) A$15.00\nOne session only (concession) A$10.00 \nRegister here. \nThe Tibetan Book of Living and Dying is available for purchase at our centre for $20. (Please bring cash – we do not have credit card facilities) \nWe hope that you can join us and we look forward to seeing you there.

SUMMARY:The All Encompassing Path to Enlightenment
DESCRIPTION:The All-Encompassing Path to Enlightenment (AEPE) is the main study programme in Rigpa\, for students of all levels: new\, more advanced or in-between. This year\, the AEPE will explore the main principles of the preliminary practices\, called Ngöndro in Tibetan. Our most experienced Rigpa teachers will guide us through the key principles of the Ngöndro\, helping us to explore these principles in a fresh\, up-to-date\, real life way\, while preserving their authenticity. \nThese practices are a complete path in themselves and also the foundation for Vajrayana and Dzogchen practice\, encompassing all the elements needed to prepare us to fully receive the Great Perfection teachings of Dzogchen\, the highest and most direct stream of wisdom within the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. So no matter where we are on our path\, the AEPE will support us in taking it to completion.  \nThursday evenings\, all year\n 6:00-7:30pm AEDT (8:00am CET\, 2:00am Mon US East) \nOnline via Zoom

SUMMARY:Enlightened Courage: the Secret to Training and Transforming your Mind with Wisdom and Compassion. Term Three.
DESCRIPTION:Enlightened Courage: the secret to training and transforming your mind with wisdom and compassion. \nTerm 3\, 8 Sessions\,  25 July – 26 September\, Including a two week break\, 15 August – 22 August \nOnline – Fridays\, 9.30am – 11.30am \n/MAHAYANA/ \nThis class is a year long course made up of terms. The class features teachings from Sogyal Rinpoche\, Jetsun Khandro Rinpoche and Patrick Gaffney\, this weekly course presents the Mahayana Seven Points of Mind Training. These points lay out a path of formal meditation practice\, along with guidelines for extending that practice into everyday life. \nThese teachings are precious and unique in presenting the entire depth and breadth of the Buddha’s Mahayana teachings succinctly and practically. Mahayana mind training offers an approach to life that is straightforward\, grounded in sanity\, kindness\, and compassion. Yet it also offers a vision that completely transcends our ordinary way of viewing ourselves and others\, with an all-encompassing vision of enlightenment. \nAt the heart of this vision of enlightenment is the view that our innate\, fundamental identity is vast\, luminous and utterly awake. The Mahayana teachings refer to this as our enlightened heart\, or bodhicitta. Enlightenment is nothing other than who we really are. But for most of us\, our true nature is like a hidden treasure\, concealed behind layers of mental activity and preoccupation. Mahayana mind training helps us give expression to our enlightened heart in everything we think\, say and do. \nFounded on a practice lineage that has been actively practised for hundreds of years\, these teachings are completely relevant to the challenges posed by our modern\, globalised life. \n🗓️ 8 weekly classes: Term 3\, Friday Mornings\, 25 July – 26 September\, including a two week break\, 15 August – 22 August \n⏰ 9.30am – 11.30am Australian Eastern Standard Time \n📍Online via Zoom \n💰full $160\, concession $80 \nFree for Rigpa subscribers/ members (  please email newcastle@rigpa.org.au to request the subscriber discount code ). \nThis is the third term of a year-long course. If you wish to join after the first two weeks of a term then please register and pay a pro rata amount by sending  an email enquiry to newcastle@rigpa.org.au. If you are a newer student and would like to study this text please email Rigpa Newcastle at newcastle@rigpa.org.au.

SUMMARY:Love\, Compassion\, Joy & Equanimity
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce that the Fifth Amnyi Trulchung Rinpoche has offered to teach in our Melbourne Centre on the evenings of September 19 and 20 and for the day on Sunday September 21. He is a Kempo who studied at Larang Gar under Jigme Phuntsok Rinpoche.\n\n\nFriday September 19 from 7pm till 9pm. \nLove\, Compassion\, Joy & Equanimity – the motivation of the Four Immeasurables in our lives and practice\n \n\nAbout Rinpoche\nThe Fifth Amnyi Trulchung Rinpoche was born in 1970\, amid many auspicious signs\, and was soon recognised as the reincarnation of the Fourth Amnyi Trulchung Rinpoche of Ju Mohor Monastery.\n\nEven as a young boy\, he was unlike his peers. He had a particularly loving and compassionate nature that was noted and appreciated by all who met him. Amnyi Trulchung Rinpoche showed exceptional intelligence in all his studies and attained perfect understanding in all he was taught.\nWith the guidance of his spiritual teachers\, he undertook all the traditional training of his lineage. This included accumulating the 500\,000 ngondro practices\, and training in the Rigdzin lineage tradition including the essential Dzogchen instructions of kadak trekchö and lhundrop tögal during which time he gained extraordinary insights and experiences from his meditation practice. This training culminated in a three year retreat at Yachen Orgyen Samten Choeling\, under the regular guidance of HH Lama Achuk Rinpoche.\n\nAt the age of 18 years he was formally enthroned as the Fifth Amnyi Trulchung Rinpoche and abbot of Ju Monastery.\nHis education continued at the great university centre of Larang Gar at Serthar. He studied the different schools of Buddhist philosophy and the sutra and tantra under a number of teachers\, particularly the founder of Larang Gar\, HH Khenchen Jigme Phuntsok Rinpoche. He graduated from Larang Gar as a Khenpo at the age of 25.\n\nLater\, Rinpoche returned to Ju Mohor Monastery to give teachings\, to the great benefit of the monastic community there. During this time\, Rinpoche also received many empowerments\, oral transmissions and pith instructions of the secret Nyingmapa kama and terma traditions from a number of scholars and practitioners including HH Drupwang Pema Norbu\, Khenpo Pema Tsewang\, Venerable Gyangkhang Tulku\, Venerable Khenpo Choekyap\, Venerable Trulshig Rinpoche and Venerable Taklung Tsetrul Rinpoche and several teachings on Secret Mantrayana from Venerable Ngorlu Ding Khenchen.\n\nRinpoche is now heading the groundbreaking Vista Project\, based in Sershul\, the town closest to Ju Mohor Monastery. The aim of the Vista Project is to revitalise the economic and cultural lives of the Tibetan people. Although the Chinese economy is growing rapidly\, the nomadic peoples of Eastern Tibet are often unable to take advantage of the opportunities available. The Vista Project aims to provide basic education and vocational training to enable local nomads to survive and prosper in the modern economic climate and also to preserve and cultivate the ancient culture of Tibet.

SUMMARY:The Wisdom of Compassion | Newcastle I Term Three
DESCRIPTION:The Wisdom of Compassion\nTerm 3\, Tonglen and Bodhichitta\n8 Sessions\, 22nd July and 23rd September (with 2 week break 12 and 19 August)\n11:15am to 1:15pm.\nIn Person at Infuse Health\, 4/10 William Street\, Adamstown\, 2289.\n  \nThe Wisdom of Compassion presents key Buddhist teachings on the powerful logic of compassion and practical methods for developing a more kind relationship with ourselves\, those around us and ultimately all beings. \nOur innate capacity for empathy is the source of the very best of human qualities : love\, kindness\, generosity\, warm-heartedness\, courage … compassion. Although we are born with a vast capacity to love\, we may not know how to do so unconditionally\, or how to express that love in practice. \nWhen our heart and mind are filled with love\, we find the greatest inner healing\, tranquillity and well-being. Modern research shows that with empathy and compassion we can be more fully ourselves\, connect more easily with others\, improve self worth and reduce self-criticism\, and lead healthier lives. \nParticipants in this course will learn how to: \n\ndevelop loving kindness for themselves\nextend that loving kindness to all beings\nmove along the path from compassion to fully enlightened courage\n\nTerm 3 \nThe Buddhist practice of ‘equalizing self and others’ (Tonglen) as expressed in giving with great love and taking with great compassion\, known as Tonglen\, is one of the most useful and powerful of all Buddhist practices. Tonglen is a simple and straightforward practice\, which is extremely effective at getting to the heart of our predicament: our excessively self-centred attitude. Tonglen opens you to the truth of the suffering of others; it reveals the loving\, expansive radiance of your own nature. And it offers extraordinary power in destroying the self-cherishing and self-absorption which is the root of all our heard-heartedness and all our suffering. \nIn the last 3 weeks of the term we will begin looking at the practical tools for putting compassion into action. Called the Six Paramitas\, they are the focus for Term 4. \nIf you have done a Rigpa course previously and are familiar with meditation and Loving Kindness practice you are invited to join our class for Term 3 (and 4) of our Wisdom of Compassion yearlong program. \nLed by Western meditation instructors with many years of experience \, each session consists of: \n\nVideo teachings from Tibetan and Western Buddhist masters including Sogyal Rinpoche\, Jetsün Khandro Rinpoche\, Ringu Tulku Rinpoche\, Mingyur Rinpoche\, Pema Chödrön and Sharon Salzberg.\nMeditation practice\nTime for contemplation\nGroup discussions and Q&A\, offering each student the opportunity to explore the teachings and practices in an open supportive environment and to connect with a community of practitioners.\n\nThis is the  third module of a year-long course made up of 8 to 10-week long modules. You are welcome to join within the first few weeks of this term.  If you wish to join after the commencement of each term and the registration is closed\, then please email us at newcastle@rigpa.org.au. It is possible to join and pay a pro rata amount. \nCost:  \nEight sessions: Full $160\, Concession $80. \nIf you are experiencing financial hardship please email us at newcastle@rigpa.org.au to request a further concession. \nFREE for Rigpa members/subscribers. Please email newcastle@rigpa.org.au to request the discount code.

SUMMARY:The Wisdom of Compassion - The Six Paramitas
DESCRIPTION:Much as we may wish to be kind\, caring and loving\, often this may be difficult for us in practice. As we move from wishing to be more compassionate to grappling with how we put this into action\, the Buddhist teachings include six tools in a how-to guide: \n1. Generosity: cultivating the attitude of generosity. \n2. Discipline: refraining from harm. \n3. Patience: not being perturbed by anything. \n4. Diligence: finding joy in what is virtuous\, positive or wholesome. \n5. Meditative concentration: not being distracted. \n6. Wisdom: the perfect discrimination of all knowable things. \nThese are known as the Six Paramitas\, or transcendent perfections and contain all the vital skills needed for us to transform our mind and open our heart. \nThis twelve-week course addresses each of the Six Paramitas in turn\, offering a wealth of practical advice to help us put our best biggest heart into action everyday. \n

SUMMARY:Enlightened Courage: the secret to training and transforming your mind with wisdom and compassion
DESCRIPTION:Featuring teachings from Sogyal Rinpoche\, Jetsun Khandro Rinpoche and Patrick Gaffney\, this weekly course presents the Mahayana Seven Points of Mind Training. \n🗓️ Friday Mornings\, 17 October – 12 December\n⏰ 9.30am – 11.30am Australian Eastern Daylight Time\n📍Online via Zoom
