SUMMARY:Inspiring a Revolution in Your Heart and Mind | Bringing the Mind Home - Sydney and Online
DESCRIPTION:Bringing the Mind Home (Module 4 of the full-year course\, new students welcome) \nThis module takes a deep dive into a range of meditation techniques to enable us to access a rich variety of methods to transform our moods and emotions. This shows us how the whole purpose of meditation is to transcend our ordinary mind\, to discover our fundamental nature\, which we have lost touch with. The highest goal of meditation is to awake in us the sky-like nature of mind and introduce to us who we really are: our unchanging pure awareness.

SUMMARY:Bringing the Mind Home - Finding Inner Peace\, Compassion\, and Wisdom
DESCRIPTION:The key message of Buddha’s teachings is both empowering and optimistic: that inherent in the essential nature of our mind is a kindness\, compassion\, and wisdom that is naturally ours. And through the simple\, yet revolutionary shift in orientation that comes when we learn to turn within and come to know that aspect of our mind\, we will come to discover within ourselves a tremendous capacity to benefit ourselves and our world. \nThe teachings of the Buddha say that when we understand our mind\, we understand ourselves and who we really are\, and this brings with it a deep sense of peace\, confidence\, and well-being. For those of us who are searching for a wholesome relationship with ourselves and the world around us\, Buddha’s message is an invitation for exploration and investigation. \nThe Buddha never asked anyone to just believe what he said\, but instead asked us to deeply investigate anything before accepting it. In this course\, we invite you to do exactly this\, and will facilitate a process of \n\nlearning about what Buddha had to say about our mind\, and its role in creating our reality\nreflection and investigating this to see if it rings true to you\, and challenging our own views and habits in light of our understanding\nmeditation – which is a direct and experiential process of clearly and directly seeing your own mind and reality\, in light of the insights gained through learning and reflection\n\nThe course draws on a variety of sources\, ranging from the direct teachings of Buddha recorded in ancient texts called sutra and abhidharma\, to contemporary masters who hold the living and unbroken transmission of the Buddha’s wisdom mind\, and are able to guide us from the depth of their insight and compassion. \n  \nCourse details \nThis is the first module of a two part course. It can be followed as as stand-alone course or taken together with the next course module\, which will run from Wednesday 20 August to Wednesday 8 October 2025 \n\nWhen: Weekly classes on Wednesday evenings from 11 June to 30 July 2025\, 7:00 – 8:45pm AEST. Practice based classes on Sunday 29 June and Sunday 27 July\, 9:30am to 3:30pm AEST\nWhere: \nin person at Rigpa Brisbane\, 2/19 Enoggera Terrace\, Red Hill; \nin person at Rigpa Melbourne\, 803 Nicholson St\, Carlton North and \nonline (online attendance only available if you do not live in Brisbane or Melbourne)\nCost: $200 full fee or $110 concession\n\nFor Rigpa subscribers: The course is included in your subscription fees

SUMMARY:Enlightened Courage: the Secret to Training and Transforming your Mind with Wisdom and Compassion. Term Two.
DESCRIPTION:Enlightened Courage: the secret to training and transforming your mind with wisdom and compassion. \nTerm 2\, 10 Sessions\, 2 May – 4 July \nOnline – Fridays\, 9.30am – 11.30am \n/MAHAYANA/ \nThis class is a year long course made up of terms. The class features teachings from Sogyal Rinpoche\, Jetsun Khandro Rinpoche and Patrick Gaffney\, this weekly course presents the Mahayana Seven Points of Mind Training. These points lay out a path of formal meditation practice\, along with guidelines for extending that practice into everyday life. \nThese teachings are precious and unique in presenting the entire depth and breadth of the Buddha’s Mahayana teachings succinctly and practically. Mahayana mind training offers an approach to life that is straightforward\, grounded in sanity\, kindness\, and compassion. Yet it also offers a vision that completely transcends our ordinary way of viewing ourselves and others\, with an all-encompassing vision of enlightenment. \nAt the heart of this vision of enlightenment is the view that our innate\, fundamental identity is vast\, luminous and utterly awake. The Mahayana teachings refer to this as our enlightened heart\, or bodhicitta. Enlightenment is nothing other than who we really are. But for most of us\, our true nature is like a hidden treasure\, concealed behind layers of mental activity and preoccupation. Mahayana mind training helps us give expression to our enlightened heart in everything we think\, say and do. \nFounded on a practice lineage that has been actively practised for hundreds of years\, these teachings are completely relevant to the challenges posed by our modern\, globalised life. \n🗓️ 10 weekly classes: Term 2. Friday Mornings\, 2 May – 4 July \n⏰ 9.30am – 11.30am Australian Eastern Standard Time \n📍Online via Zoom \n💰full $200\, concession $100 \nFree for Rigpa subscribers/ members (  please email newcastle@rigpa.org.au to request the subscriber discount code ). \nThis is the first term of a year-long course. SUMMARY:Cultivating Compassion
DESCRIPTION:In a world full of turmoil\, stress\, anxiety and disconnect\, we are all looking for simple\, practical ways in which we can nurture our own inner goodness and find the peace and courage to live well. \nGeshe Chekawa’s summation of the Tibetan Buddhist guidelines for living a compassionate life\, known as the Seven Points of Mind Training\, have guided practitioners for more than a thousand years. His pithy slogans open the way for each of us to nurture our own compassionate nature and put compassion into action in everyday life. These slogans offer a vital practical antidote to despair and despondency. \nCultivating Compassion presents teachings on the Seven Points given by Jetsün Khandro Rinpoche accompanied by reflections from Traleg Rinpoche and Ringu Tulku Rinpoche. \nJetsün Khandro Rinpoche is one of the outstanding meditation teachers of our time. She is known for her penetrating wisdom and humour\, conveying the Buddhist teachings in a concise and lively manner\, enriched with personal anecdotes\, which are of particular relevance to the everyday life of the modern\, fast-paced world. \nFrom the early 1980s onwards\, Traleg Kyabgon Rinpoche was a pioneer in bringing Tibetan Buddhism to Australia and was a strong advocate of non-sectarianism. He taught extensively on many aspects of Buddhist psychology and philosophy\, comparative religion\, and Buddhist and Western thought. \nRingu Tulku Rinpoche has trained in all schools of Tibetan Buddhism under many great masters including His Holiness the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa and His Holiness Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche. He is renowned for his ability to transmit complicated teachings with a remarkable warmth and simplicity. \nThis program is open to all\, but does assume some familiarity with meditation and the Buddhist understanding of interdependence. \n  \nSaturday mornings\, third Saturday of the month\n 10.30am – 12.30pm in Eastern Australia\nOnline via Zoom\n \n15 Feb\, 15 Mar\, 17 May\, 21 Jun\, 19 Jul\n(We’ll take a break in April)

SUMMARY:The Wisdom of Compassion - Bodhichitta and Tonglen
DESCRIPTION:The Buddhist practice of ‘equalizing self and others’ as expressed in giving with great love and taking with great compassion\, known as Tonglen\, is one of the most useful and powerful of all Buddhist practices. Tonglen is a simple and straightforward practice\, which is extremely effective at getting to the heart of our predicament: our excessively self-centred attitude. Tonglen opens you to the truth of the suffering of others; it reveals the loving\, expansive radiance of your own nature. And it offers extraordinary power in destroying the self-cherishing and self-absorption which is the root of all our hard-heartedness and all our suffering. \nThe Wisdom of Compassion presents key Buddhist teachings on the powerful logic of compassion and practical methods for developing a more kind relationship with ourselves\, those around us and ultimately all beings. \nOur innate capacity for empathy is the source of the very best of human qualities: love\, kindness\, generosity\, warm-heartedness\, courage … compassion. Although we are born with a vast capacity to love\, we may not know how to do so unconditionally\, or how to express that love in practice. \nWhen our heart and mind are filled with love\, we find the greatest inner healing\, tranquillity and well-being. Modern research shows that with empathy and compassion we can be more fully ourselves\, connect more easily with others\, improve self worth and reduce self-criticism\, and lead healthier lives. \nParticipants in this course will learn how to: \n\ndevelop loving kindness for themselves\nextend that loving kindness to all beings\nmove along the path from compassion to fully enlightened courage

SUMMARY:The Wisdom of Compassion - Bodhichitta and Tonglen | Online
DESCRIPTION:Bodhichitta and Tonglen – 8 week course 22 July to 9 September 2025  attend online. \nStudents who have attended a Rigpa course previously and are familiar with meditation\, Loving Kindness practices and The Four Immeasureables are invited to join this class. \nThe Buddhist practice of ‘equalizing self and others’ (Tonglen) as expressed in giving with great love and taking with great compassion\, known as Tonglen\, is one of the most useful and powerful of all Buddhist practices. Tonglen is a simple and straightforward practice\, which is extremely effective at getting to the heart of our predicament: our excessively self-centred attitude. Tonglen opens you to the truth of the suffering of others; it reveals the loving\, expansive radiance of your own nature. And it offers extraordinary power in destroying the self-cherishing and self-absorption which is the root of all our heard-heartedness and all our suffering. \nNote: This class will be held online only due to building work at our center in Newtown. \n

SUMMARY:Inspiring a Revolution in Your Heart and Mind | Rebirth\, Karma and This Life - Sydney and Online
DESCRIPTION:Rebirth\, Karma and This Life (Module 5 of the full-year course\, new students welcome) \nThis module explores the Buddhist reasoning for the acceptance of rebirth and reincarnation. We will use the Buddha’s Four Noble Truths as a framework to help us take stock of our lives\, inspire a shift in the way we see ourselves and the way we relate to the world around us. Lastly\, the module investigates Karma. Karma is often misunderstood in as fate or pre-destination. Karma\, however if understood well\, presents us with an opportunity to be free from our suffering.

Term Three.
DESCRIPTION:Enlightened Courage: the secret to training and transforming your mind with wisdom and compassion. \nTerm 3\, 8 Sessions\,  25 July – 26 September\, Including a two week break\, 15 August – 22 August \nOnline – Fridays\, 9.30am – 11.30am \n/MAHAYANA/ \nThis class is a year long course made up of terms. \n🗓️ 8 weekly classes: Term 3\, Friday Mornings\, 25 July – 26 September\, including a two week break\, 15 August – 22 August \n⏰ 9.30am – 11.30am Australian Eastern Standard Time \n📍Online via Zoom \n💰full $160\, concession $80 \nFree for Rigpa subscribers/ members (  please email newcastle@rigpa.org.au to request the subscriber discount code ). \nThis is the third term of a year-long course.
