SUMMARY:Turning Suffering and Happiness into Enlightenment | Online
DESCRIPTION:The Buddhist teachings show us a way to find a deep sense of fulfillment that does not depend on outer circumstances and is naturally ours. Through a process of reflection and meditation\, we find inner strength\, which allows us to fully and fearlessly engage with everything we experience in our lives. Then\, all our experiences – happy or sad\, good or bad – will become a source of personal growth and spiritual awakening: they have the potential to open our eyes and our heart\, and make us grow wiser and more compassionate. \nTurning Suffering and Happiness into Enlightenment will present teachings that offer commentary of the classic\, short and pithy text\, Taking Happiness and Suffering on our Path\, by the great Dzogchen master Dodrupchen Jigme Tenpe Nyima. This text presents the Buddha’s teachings on how to transform suffering and happiness in a manner that is easy to understand and put into practice.

SUMMARY:The Wisdom of Compassion: Inner Healing and Spiritual Strength | Melbourne\, Sydney and Online
DESCRIPTION:The Wisdom of Compassion presents key Buddhist teachings on the powerful logic of compassion and practical methods for developing a more kind relationship with ourselves\, those around us and ultimately all beings.  \nOur innate capacity for empathy is the source of the very best of human qualities: love\, kindness\, generosity\, warm-heartedness\, courage … compassion. Although we are born with a vast capacity to love\, we may not know how to do so unconditionally\, or how to express that love in practice. \nWhen our heart and mind are filled with love\, we find the greatest inner healing\, tranquillity and well-being. Modern research shows that with empathy and compassion we can be more fully ourselves\, connect more easily with others\, improve self worth and reduce self-criticism\, and lead healthier lives. \nParticipants in this course will learn how to: \n\ndevelop loving kindness for themselves\nextend that loving kindness to all beings\nmove along the path from compassion to fully enlightened courage\n\nLed by Western meditation instructors with many years of experience\, each session consists of: \n\nVideo teachings from Tibetan and Western Buddhist masters including Sogyal Rinpoche\, Jetsün Khandro Rinpoche\, Ringu Tulku Rinpoche\, Mingyur Rinpoche\, Pema Chödrön and Sharon Salzberg.\nMeditation practice\nTime for contemplation\nGroup discussions and Q&A\, offering each student the opportunity to explore the teachings and practices in an open supportive environment and to connect with a community of practitioners.

SUMMARY:Our Inner Freedom - Looking Within | Melbourne\, Sydney and Online
DESCRIPTION:The Buddha’s life and teachings show that we all encounter change and loss. Our lives are changing all the time\, often in small ways\, but sometimes impermanence turns our whole world upside down. If we can take the message of impermanence and death to heart fully we can discover the deathless nature of mind that is the doorway to genuine and lasting freedom. \nThe Buddha’s life and teachings show that we all encounter change and loss. Our lives are changing all the time\, often in small ways\, but sometimes impermanence turns our whole world upside down. Sometimes\, the experience of such a powerful reminder of impermanence can be frightening; and we feel an urgent need to question and challenge our life’s priorities. The deeper implications of impermanence—that everything is interdependent and selfless—can help us to let go of grasping and fixating on our circumstances as solid and real. As we deepen our reflection\, we may well emerge from self-destructive habits that may be causing us to be unhappy or dissatisfied. If we can take the message of impermanence and death to heart fully we can discover the deathless nature of mind that is the doorway to genuine and lasting freedom. \nThis year-long course consists of three modules. The first will present a series of contemplations and meditations on impermanence\, death\, selflessness and emptiness. This can assist us to move beyond the clutches of fear and discover a new meaning\, a new inspiration\, and a new joy in our lives. The second\, looks at how the Buddha’s own life embodies the deep truths he taught. And the third\, takes a deep dive into the elements of the Buddha’s teaching that distinguish Buddhism from all other religious and philosophical approaches. \nLed by Western meditation instructors with many years of experience\, each session consists of: \n\nVideo teachings from Tibetan and Western Buddhist masters including Patrick Gaffney\, Sogyal Rinpoche\, Jetsün Khandro Rinpoche\, Ringu Tulku Rinpoche\, Mingyur Rinpoche and Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche.\nMeditation practice\nTime for contemplation\nGroup discussions and Q&A\, offering each student the opportunity to explore the teachings and practices in an open supportive environment.\n\nDetails \nWhere: \n\nOnline\nRigpa Melbourne\, 803 Nicholson St\, Carlton North\nRigpa Sydney\, 158 Australia St\, Newtown.\n\nWhen: Thursday evenings\, starting 8 February\nTen weeks\, with a break during Easter. \nTime: 7.00pm – 9.00pm Australian Eastern Time\n(9.00am Central European Time; 3.00am US East Coast Time) \nThis course is for established students. SUMMARY:Cultivating Compassion: A Practical Guide to Being Kind | Online
DESCRIPTION:In a world full of turmoil\, stress\, anxiety and disconnect\, we are all looking for simple\, practical ways in which we can nurture our own inner goodness and find the peace and courage to live well. \nGeshe Chekawa’s summation of the Tibetan Buddhist guidelines for living a compassionate life\, known as the Seven Points of Mind Training\, have guided practitioners for more than a thousand years. His pithy slogans open the way for each of us to nurture our own compassionate nature and put compassion into action in everyday life. These slogans offer a vital practical antidote to despair and despondency. \nCultivating Compassion presents teachings on the Seven Points given by Jetsün Khandro Rinpoche accompanied by reflections from Traleg Rinpoche. \nJetsün Khandro Rinpoche is one of the outstanding meditation teachers of our time. She is known for her penetrating wisdom and humour\, conveying the Buddhist teachings in a concise and lively manner\, enriched with personal anecdotes\, which are of particular relevance to the everyday life of the modern\, fast-paced world. \nFrom the early 1980s onwards\, Traleg Kyabgon Rinpoche was a pioneer in bringing Tibetan Buddhism to Australia and was a strong advocate of non-sectarianism. He taught extensively on many aspects of Buddhist psychology and philosophy\, comparative religion\, and Buddhist and Western thought. \nThis program is open to all\, but does assume some familiarity with meditation and the Buddhist understanding of interdependence.
