SUMMARY:Sydney Sangha Day - February 2025
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nCultivating confidence in our true nature and our spiritual path \nSenior Teacher Jan van der Breggen\, accompanied by Sydney instructor Alessandra Pizzardello\, will guide a shared reflection on the topic of confidence\, which in the teachings is presented as a crucial element of our spiritual journey. \nThe Tibetan term  depa is multifaceted\, and involves confidence in our own innate wakefulness\, as well as trust in the qualities of the three jewels – Buddha\, dharma\, sangha – born from insight that arises from study\, reflection\, and meditation. \nDeveloping this kind of trust and confidence will inspire our spiritual journey\, arouse in us an eagerness to actualise our innate potential of wakefulness\, and make us naturally turn towards the Buddha as our guide\, the dharma as the path\, and the sangha as our companions on the path.

DESCRIPTION:A retreat with Ringu Tulku \n18-26 January 2025 \nHave you ever considered the practical implications of caring more about others than about yourself? \nA bodhisattva is someone who says\, from the depth of their heart\, ‘I long to attain a state of everlasting peace and happiness\, in which all suffering has ceased\, and I want to do so for myself and for all sentient beings.’ The classic Buddhist text\, the Thirty-Seven Practices of a Bodhisattva\, offers a practical guide on just how to do this. SUMMARY:Cultivating Compassion: A Practical Guide to Being Kind | Online
DESCRIPTION:In a world full of turmoil\, stress\, anxiety and disconnect\, we are all looking for simple\, practical ways in which we can nurture our own inner goodness and find the peace and courage to live well. \nGeshe Chekawa’s summation of the Tibetan Buddhist guidelines for living a compassionate life\, known as the Seven Points of Mind Training\, have guided practitioners for more than a thousand years. His pithy slogans open the way for each of us to nurture our own compassionate nature and put compassion into action in everyday life. These slogans offer a vital practical antidote to despair and despondency. \nCultivating Compassion presents teachings on the Seven Points given by Jetsün Khandro Rinpoche accompanied by reflections from Traleg Rinpoche. \nJetsün Khandro Rinpoche is one of the outstanding meditation teachers of our time. She is known for her penetrating wisdom and humour\, conveying the Buddhist teachings in a concise and lively manner\, enriched with personal anecdotes\, which are of particular relevance to the everyday life of the modern\, fast-paced world. \nFrom the early 1980s onwards\, Traleg Kyabgon Rinpoche was a pioneer in bringing Tibetan Buddhism to Australia and was a strong advocate of non-sectarianism. He taught extensively on many aspects of Buddhist psychology and philosophy\, comparative religion\, and Buddhist and Western thought. \nThis program is open to all\, but does assume some familiarity with meditation and the Buddhist understanding of interdependence.

SUMMARY:Inspiring a Revolution in Your Heart and Mind | Awakening Compassion
DESCRIPTION:This module of Inspiring a Revolution in Your Heart and Mind explores the Buddhist approach to practicing compassion and how to apply it in all situations. The first step to compassion is to realise that other people are just like you. They too wish to be happy and free from suffering. Then through the practice of Tonglen (giving and receiving)\, we begin to mentally take on the suffering of others with compassion\, and give our happiness and wellbeing with love. So that ultimately our every action can be an act of compassion.

SUMMARY:The Power of Mind: Kindness\, Clarity & Insight
DESCRIPTION:This brand new weekly course presents the Mahayana Seven Points of Mind Training. These points lay out a path of formal meditation practice\, along with guidelines for extending that practice into everyday life. \nThese teachings are precious and unique in presenting the entire depth and breadth of the Buddha’s Mahayana teachings succinctly and practically. Mahayana mind training offers an approach to life that is straightforward\, grounded in sanity\, kindness\, and compassion. Yet it also offers a vision that completely transcends our ordinary way of viewing ourselves and others\, with an all-encompassing vision of enlightenment. \nAt the heart of this vision of enlightenment is the view that our innate\, fundamental identity is vast\, luminous and utterly awake. The Mahayana teachings refer to this as our enlightened heart\, or bodhicitta. Enlightenment is nothing other than who we really are. But for most of us\, our true nature is like a hidden treasure\, concealed behind layers of mental activity and preoccupation. \nMahayana mind training helps us give expression to our enlightened heart in everything we think\, say and do. The training particularly focuses on our relationships\, which are like a mirror that shows us exactly where we are at. Our relationships also provide us with a way to dissolve the limitations that prevent the vastness of our true nature from fully manifesting. \nFounded on a practice lineage that has been actively practised for hundreds of years\, these teachings are completely relevant to the challenges posed by our modern\, globalised life. This course will include topics like: \n\nfinding meaning in our lives\, and connectedness with our world\novercoming loneliness and isolation\nhow to thrive in the face of difficulties\nhow to contribute to creating a more sustainable\, kind\, and compassionate world\n\nThe course will consist of seven classes on Wednesday evenings\, plus two extended practice based classes where we gather for more in-depth mind training meditation practice. \n🗓️ 7 weekly classes: 25 September – 13 November 2024 (course break on Wednesday 9 October)\n⏰ 7:00-8:45pm AEST (Start time 11:00am CEST\, 5:00am US East Coast)\n* as this will be taught from Brisbane\, times in other locations will change once summer time begins in some states in the second week of October. Please use this time zone calculator for full details \nPractice days on Saturday 19 October and Sunday 10 November\, 9:30am to 3:30pm AEST (Start time 10:30 AEDT\, 1:30am CEST\, 7:30pm US East Coast) \n📍Online via Zoom and in person at Rigpa Brisbane\, 2/19 Enoggera Tce\, Red Hill. \n💰full $200\, concession $100\, free for Rigpa paying subscribers (registration is still required\, just close the payment page that comes up after registration.)

SUMMARY:Inspring a Revolution in Your Heart and Mind | The Spiritual Path
DESCRIPTION:The first declaration that the Buddha made at the time of his enlightenment was: “Profound peace\, free of complexity\, natural simplicity\, uncompounded luminosity.” This module of Inspiring a Revolution in Your Heart and Mind examines what enlightenment is and explores the practical training of the Tibetan Buddhist Dzogchen Path in terms of View\, Meditation and Action. To see directly the absolute state\, the Ground of our being\, is the View; the way of stabilizing that View and making it an unbroken experience is Meditation; and integrating the View into our entire reality\, and life\, is what is meant by Action.
